Light – illumination that is – is biblical in nature. We celebrate light this time of year as the ever diminishing rays of sunshine darken in the late fall and early winter hours. Holiday festivities feature arrays of lights whether festooned on a Christmas tree or a candle lit menorah. So it is fitting that American Tea Room introduce their Premium Candle Collection during this season.
What goes into making a Premium Candle Collection you might ask? Well first you need to find an excellent manufacturer, which we did locally right here in Los Angeles. We were looking for scents that burned clean and were inspired by the amazing aroma of our store. We researched fragrances and waxes for months on end to create the perfect blend. Jasmine and Lemongrass were the first to be developed and represent the floral end of the spectrum of our teas. St Tropez (a heady berry scent) and Cabochon (star anise) were wonderfully translated into equally vivid bouquets. Finally we hit on the perfect clean crisp notes of black tea in Maharajah. Five exquisite teas transformed into clean soy based wax candles that burn for more than 30 hours. That would have been enough for most, but not for us at American Tea Room. We think that candles should illuminate, perfume and be visually stunning at the same time – and that’s no short order, but we were able to fulfill it.
Our 100% soy wax candle manufactured here in the USA changes before your eyes. How is this possible? The vessel used to house the candle is made of thermochromatic glass. When exposed to heat (the lighted candle) the vessel slowly unveils its stunning pattern. It takes about 30 minutes or so for the effects to happen and once the candle is extinguished the pattern disappears — only to reappear again each time the candle is lit.
Each candle is housed in a different thermochromatic pattern (displayed on the top label of our beautiful white boxes). When the candle has burned its last light you can repurpose the vessel – just rinse out thoroughly with very warm sudsy water and you now have a fabulous tea glass. The same pattern emerges when you add your hot tea. The glass changes from black to pattern immediately when it comes in contact with your tea, another transforming effect that will give you a little lightness in your day.
